320,000 Tonnes! Yantai Port of Shandong Port Group Sets New Global Record for Bauxite Single-Vessel Unloading for the 4th Time
On September 19, MV Winning Ambition, carrying 320,000 tonnes of bauxite from Guinea, successfully berthed at Berth 502 in the West Port Area of Yantai Port, Shandong Port Group, to commence unloading operations. This marks the fourth time Yantai Port has broken the world record for the single-vessel unloading volume of bauxite.
To date, Yantai Port has received a total of 82 300,000-tonne-class bauxite vessels. It demonstrates the steady operation of the China-Africa bauxite ultra-large ore carrier shipping project, further consolidating Yantai Port’s position as the No.1 port for China-Africa trade. The milestone injects strong impetus into building a critical hub for domestic and international dual circulation and advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
This maiden call once again showcases Shandong Port Group’s resolve to develop a bulk dry bulk storage, transportation and transshipment base, as well as its robust capability to handle ultra-large vessels.
MV Winning Ambition is the lead ship of the WINNINGMAX Sirius series owned by Winning International Group, built by CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding. Equipped with an integrated methanol fuel tank within the hull, the vessel has obtained DNV’s Methanol-Ready certification. Its EEDI index is 33.9% lower than the baseline value. As a green VLOC designed for future zero-carbon shipping, the ship undertakes the ocean transportation of Simandou iron ore and Guinea bauxite. It connects overseas resource supply sources with port logistics hubs, setting an exemplary model for building an efficient, low-carbon and secure global mineral supply chain.
